Setting up Network in Slackware 13

http://www.linuxquestions.org – New slackware user here -I've only dabbled in Ubuntu before. After some painful effort in getting Slackware w/ KDE installed and my two hard drive setup working correctly, I've run into some problems in setting my network up correctly. I have to admit that I'm pretty used to lazily letting Ubuntu/Windows configure things automatically for me, but even as I'm reading the slackbook things are not working/making little sense to me. When I open up network settings after going to system settings, I get a pop-up that says "failed to parse XML file" with a window in the background that says "detecting current platform..." Nothing happens after I close the error message. I've tried using netconfig, but I have little idea as to what I'm doing in that... My network adapter is whatever came with the ASUS P5Q-E motherboard -appears to be a Marvell Yukon 88e8056 and my router is a Linksys WRT54G v8 flashed with the micro version of dd-wrt. Totally lost here, help? (HowTos)
