Sense vs AOSP

http://androidforums.com – Let me start by saying I have never used AOSP and recently rooted my phone for the first time. I am currently running mikg 3.0 with a stock kernal. Prior to rooting I never had great battery life but I feel like it has gotten substantialy worse since. This leads me to ask, can I expect better life from an AOSP ROM as opposed to a sense based ROM and if so, do the AOSP roms have WiFi tethering? (General)
