The NASA Dawn spacecraft has taken its first picture of the nearing asteroid Vesta. The image was taken about 752,000 miles from the asteroid. See the image here.
NASA released on August 1, 2011, pictures of the asteroid Vesta that its spacecraft Dawn took of a “desolate world of transcendent beauty.”
NASA's Dawn spacecraft just got it's best jpg's of the Ceres "protoplanet" between Mars' and Jupiter's orbits,
- at about 80% resolutuion of the pics from Hubble.
While the camera is currently turned off, next week's pictures are expected to be the best view ever of Ceres -
