Security for Your Linux Server: fail2ban

view story

http://www.suseblog.com – Many an admin is surely as sick as I of huge system logs. Not that the size is the source of the offense, but what causes it: endless amounts of brute-force attempts to gain access to your server via ssh. Lucky for us, there’s a little tool called fail2ban designed specifically to address this issue. From the README, we learn that >=python-2.3 (don’t forget that this refers to the python-devel package of that version) is needed. Unarchive it, and go into the new fail2ban directory. To install, run (as root): [1658][root@server:~/fail2ban-0.8.4]$ python setup.py install   T (Distributions)
