Hi,
Every time i attempt installing ubuntu on my VM it goes flawlessly until the initial start up of the OS, i cannot seem to fit the machine inside my screen resolution. i installed a pre-made VM for an open source project and the resolution was fine, everything was scaled and actually a full screen.
It's been hell getting Ubuntu 12.10 installed, but I've finally got it working.
I'm using nomodeset, and I have an AMD Radeon HD 6540G2 graphics card.
I just installed a Acer x223w 22" widescreen monitor. I have a GeForce FX 5500 video card running NVIDIA drivers 169.12
When I set the resolution to 1280x768 the entire screen is filled.
When I set it to it's recommended resolution of 1680x1050 the left side of the screen has a 2 1/2 inch black bar. The screen is not filled as it should be.
So I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, and the screen resolution on the login screen is off. It is way to big for my monitor. I have a 21 inch monitor. The resolution is at 1600 by 1200 or whatever it is. It's to big, haha.
How do I turn down the resolution for the login window?
Thanks for the help.
Hi folks...
I am have upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 in my laptop. After performing the reboot, the shell/console resolution went very high and the font size went too small. Please help me out to regain the old console shell resolution as in 9.04.
I have a wide screen of high resolution and I see everything small on it. So In windows I set the display to 150%, I would like to do something similar in Ubuntu. Simply changing screen resolution to lower resolution doesn't help because Ubuntu is in a virtual machine and it simply changes the VM window to the actual resolution.
Is there a command or a simple hack that can do the trick?
So I have an Acer x163w widescreen monitor.
In monitor setting my Monitor is an unknown.
My resolution size is stuck at 1024x768 i believe.
I have tried manually to change the screen resolution and nothing.
I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on an Hp Pavillion m7360 Desktop.
Updating the NVidia drivers sends my machine into a storm and things just fall apart until I have to do fresh install.

I have an eee 901 (with its tiny screen) and just bought a separate LCD screen. I tried to set the screen resolution with gnome-display-properties, but the maximum in the drop-down menu is 800x600 pixel. How can I change this?
I checked the xorg.conf, but it is more or less empty.
This is on 9.04
