I hardly ever put my laptop on suspend/hibernate, so I don't know how long I've had this issue for. I'm on Ubuntu 11.10. When I turn my laptop back on again from suspend- a blank screen shows up and none of the keyboard buttons/touch-pad respond; only way to recover is holding down the power button to restart.
Hi guys this might seem like a fairly easy question but for the life of me I can't figure out how to invoke CTRL-a in a linux terminal session. I am trying to share a screen using screen.
I have no problem with my video on my ASUS G73JH laptop. In fact, it works pretty well! ^^ But the problem is when i shut the lid to my laptop. When i lift it back up, the screen in blank. It's like it's not even turned on! Whats going on? IS there any way to fix this?
EDIT: And yes, the power setting have been configured so that it doesn't suspend the computer every time i close the lid.
Hi,
If I reboot my Fedora 11 (HP 4000DV Centrino System). The screen saver will fire
*one* time and the system will eventually suspend itself.
After I wake the machine, the screen saver will not kick in and the system will
not suspend. The screen *will* blank but will not turn off.
Is this problem unique to me :)

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and my laptop* won't wake from sleep/suspend/hibernate. (Is sleep the same thing as suspend?) I'm not even sure which of these things it's doing. When I am done working for the day, I lock my screen (Control-Alt-L).
Back to Windows NT 4.0 there where a screen saver named "Windows logon". It mimic the usual logon screen (but the dialogue box moved randomly on the screen to avoid some burning process). I think it was also available with Windows 2000.
On Windows 2003 it is not longer available.
Is there a way to:
1. lock a session after a defined timeout
2.
I have a Dell Latitude D830, running Ubuntu 9.04. It used to suspend and hibernate fine, without any issues, but all of a sudden (I'm not sure when) it stopped waking up from both suspend and hibernate. When I "power" the computer back on, all I get (after the initial Dell screen) is a white flashing cursor in the top left corner of my screen.
I have ubuntu 12.04 running from a usb HDD on my hp folio 13. Everything is working, but at first the screen would only blacken when i closed the lid and didn't suspend. So, I followed this guide: https://github.com/deliciousrobots/ubuntu-hp-folio-13
after that, it sort of worked, but very unreliably. Now suspend doesn't even work and it always freeze.
