I've been testing out the new Statler release on an ASUS Eee and I really like--it's fast and responsive. I need to be able to input East Asian text, however, so I tried to install either 'ibus' or 'scim' which was available in the default repos from Statler release 2011.02.04When I searched for ibus or scim in Synaptic, however, the base package was not to be found!
I found the problem. These lines of code in my ".xinit" file that allow me to enter Japanese text were the problem:# Setup SCIM for Japanese input
export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE="scim"
export QT_IM_MODULE="scim"
scim -f x11 -c simple -dI'll comment them out for now. Lately I reconfigure Openbox much more often than I type Japanese.
Today I installed Statler A2 and tried the new input method named 'iBus'. http://code.google.com/p/ibus/Its configuration was much easier than SCIMs (I use Chinese Pinyin input) and was installed in short time.
As the title sez...I require some help getting Japanese input working in #!Crunchbang.I have downloaded the gnome-base-ja packages from the repository.
i think IM-settings is dead. i cannot get ibus or scim work.
IM-Settings-Daemon[6769]: CRITICAL **: Giving up to bring the process up because Main Input Method process for ibus rapidly died many times. See .imsettings.log for more details.
i have re-installed but it doesnt help at all.
could someone help with it? any way could get it sorted?
Hello.
Hello (again), I'm following the howto on configuring scim to enable Chinese input, and the last thing I have to do is im-switch -z en_US.UTF-8 -s scim, but I get bash: im-switch: command not found. Any solution?Edit: Sorry I'm such a noob, just had to install it *facepalm*
I'm trying to teach myself Japanese. :banghead: So, naturally, I signed up at a Japanese social website for language practice. Now, all I need is to be able to type in Japanese. I followed the instructions at this site, and everything seems to work. Everything, that is, except kate.
I can't seem to get Chinese input working.
I have ibus installed. I can see a choice of input methods in the taskbar at the top. At the moment I have zh (Chinese) and en.
But I am not getting the Chinese input, the input is still English.
I ran sudo ibus-setup, but that showed a lot of errors, but got the demon up and running.
I must be missing a step somewhere.
