There is another thread that deals with Function keys not working on Sony Vaios. I believe it is useful for those with FJ series only. That thread HERE:
I have a Sony E series laptop (64 bit) where keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 should control the screen brightness. On my machine these keys do control the brightness "slider", but they do not control the actual screen brightness. I am running Ubuntu 12.10.
Hi,
Today I bought a new Samsung Series 9,NP900X3C-A01SE laptop/ultrabook to run Fedora on, i knew there where some problems with some f-keys and suspends but as it is now I even can't install it :-(
There is no opictical drive so I have a USB memstick which I have used to try install it with.
I don't think that this is just a Gnome issues, but I'm not sure.
I have Japanese Sony VAIO VPCCB series laptop. I'm dual booting Windows 7 and UbuntuGnome.
My problem is using the Fn key with the Function keys to use the multimedia features.
My Toshiba C800 laptop (12.04lts desktop) has special function keys as follows:
fn+
F2-BRIGHTNESS DOWN
F3-BRIGHTNESS UP
F4-DISPLAY SELECT
F5-TOUCH PAD on/off
F6-PREVIOUS
F7-PLAY/PAUSE
F8-NEXT
F9-VOLUME DOWN
F10-VOLUME
F11-MUTE
F12-WiFi on/off
F6 to F11 (media player keys) work correctly, but the keys from F2 to F5 and F12 are not working.
Why would some function keys work, but not others?
Hi,for some reason the fn-keys kind of stopped working on my notebook. In the keyboard shortcut menu, I can see that e.g. the volume keys are correctly recognized as "Audio rise volume", "Audio lower volume", etc.. But they won't have any effect on the actual volume. Same goes with the brightness buttons. No reaction anymore.Any hints?

I recently purchased a Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop from Bestbuy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+...ptop&cp=1&lp=5
It's a great piece of machinery, however, the fan constantly runs when I boot into Ubuntu. On Windows there's a function, "fn + F11", that turns 'Silent Mode' on and off.
So I have a Samsung Series 3:
samsung series 3 np365e5c-S03US
And I want to install Ubuntu, but I'm worried about the UEFI bug that the kernel has where other Series laptops have been bricking after. Anyone have this particular kind of laptop and know if it works or if I should wait til 13.04 for the new kernel?
I recently bought a Samsung Series 9 laptop (NP900X3C). I knew there were some mnor issues, but I got everything (or most things I needed) going smoothly without much trouble. Except that suspend stopped working now. It used to work a week or two ago, but after some (kernel?) update it stopped. I'm wondering if anybody else is seeing this and maybe know a way around. BTW, this is on F17.
