http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Trying to setup a Fedora 11 samba server. Instructions I find all talk about a menu pick called "server settings". Cant find that! I have turned on SAMBA, SAMBA Client and SAMBA conf tool in the Add Software GUI. Can anyone point me to instructions relevent to Fedora11 & SAMBA ? Sorry, I'm not very good at the command line except to copy/paste - edit as instructed. Not knowledgable enough otherwise. Fed 11, installed with programming and webserver. ( I did tell the install to use the entire drive - that may have been a mistake also ?? ) Trying to eventually build a NAS and webserver for home network use. I have tried FreeNAS. That would work but I guess I'm looking for more challenge ..... (HowTos)

Ok,

I just installed Ubuntu server 12.04 on my pentium 4 computer, the install went great and I only choose to install samba from the list of software. When I try the samba -v command it says that samba is not installed, but if I try to edit the conf file using vi /etc/samba/smb.conf it works and the file comes up.

I've read several threads regarding the setup and use of Samba, and Samba has always been working fine until recently. I didn't change anything, but for some reason, it appears that Samba only resolves hosts on the default "Workgroup" workgroup. However, the /etc/samba/smb.conf file is setup to use a different workgroup.

I have correctly installed Samba 4 on my Centos 6 server. Windows pcs join correctly the domain and users have their roaming profiles working good. In our office we also have some Linux workstations with Fedora 18 joined to the Samba 4 AD Domain.

I use Fed18 as webserver and in order to transfer file easily between development computer (windows 7) and webserver (fed18) i setup a samba folder sharing to /var/www/html/

for now, webserver is able to access to share folders via browsing network, however windows 7 client is not able.
