I want to install Samba 4.0 for testing purpose in my pc.Could you please guide me that which old version of Samba 4 will be compatible. I know that current version is Fedora 17 but due to my old hardware the latest release of fedora could not installed.
kindly let me know any old Fedora version which will be compatible with samba 4.0.
Fedora 13 can support my pc.

am using fedora 17 with ubuntu and windows machines for educational purposes
i installed samba, disable SElinux, configure firewall to work with samba and i can access fedora samba shares but my fedora can't access other computer's samba shares with the graphic file manager only on terminal using this commands:
smbclient //192.168.1.4/Downloads

I have been using the following, completely insecure version of Samba forever and it has served me well for all versions of Samba I've used to date. Today I installed Ubuntu 12.04.2 opting to install Samba at time of installation. This resulting in Samba 3.6.3 getting installed.
I have trouble with samba, my old config from samba 3.6 don't work for 4.03 f18. The most clients windows and linux machines can r/w/c share files, but the androids users can browse the share and delete files but no more operations are permitted, why this?

I'm getting peculiar behaviour with Samba and was hoping someone could help me. I have searched quite a bit but not turned up anything like the problem I am facing.
I have recently set the 'unix extensions' property on my samba server to 'no'. This was to enable me from my cifs client to 'follow' symbolic links on my server.
