Running Ubuntu/Xmonad In VMware Player, screen doesn't resize

http://askubuntu.com – I'm not sure if the issue ultimately falls on Ubuntu or xmonad, but when I use the unity desktop in Ubuntu from my VM, when I resize the window, the desktop resizes accordingly, but when using xmonad, I have to use scrollbars to view the whole screen (I have the VMware Player window as tall as I can make it on my laptop monitor). I used to be a lot more proficient at linux, but I haven't used it as a full time desktop in a while (right now, I'm using it mostly as an SSH shell for my local home server), so I'm sure there's something I can do to solve this, I'm just not sure. If this is a quest (HowTos)

I just spent time playing around with xmonad and I really liked it.

I am considering doing a minimalistic Ubuntu installation with no desktop environment and just xmonad for the window manager.

Any thoughts on this? What's your experience (if any) with this? Or is installing a DE usually recommended?

I'm not sure if it's a proper place to ask about adjusting Xmonad, but I don't know where else to ask.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome-shell (so it looks like Gnome 2 with horizontal borders on the top and the bottom of the screen) with Xmonad running.

OK, so after last night's dist upgrade, I'm getting the following symptoms:

After restarting computer several times.

One of my screens (always the same one) is split down the middle. Not always in the same place, and sometimes shows "trails". This is not a hardware problem: during boot both screens work fine. I'ts only once the Ubuntu log-in screen shows up that the screen goes screwy.

I'm using xmonad, and I would like to open a nautilus window to a certain directory, because I like the convenience of browsing inside an encrypted zip file without unzipping it, which nautilus allows.

I'm new to Lubuntu/LXDE/openbox and I've just installed Lubuntu 12.10. I'm so far unable to find a way to tile windows with the keyboard.

Is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut that will make a window fill the left or right half of the screen (like in unity and Windows 7)?

Alternatively, I'm trying to get XMonad to work with Lubuntu.

First off: are you sure you need it? Secondly, what you found there in your link is an extension which should come with the xmonad-contrib package. You don't paste that into your xmonad.hs.This should give you an idea of what you need to do.You should probably read up on XMonad in general though, to figure out how to configure xmonad properly.
