http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hello.. main password file in redhat is: cat /etc/shadow root:$1$Etg2ExUZ$F9NTP7omafhKIlqaBMqng1:15651:0:99999:7::: where $1$ is for hashing algo that we use.. and Etg2ExUZ is salt.. and F9NTP7omafhKIlqaBMqng1 is the hash value of salt+user password.. this is the basic of this line and we can produce the same result (root:$1$Etg2ExUZ$F9NTP7omafhKIlqaBMqng1) by providind salt (Etg2ExUZ) and original password that user have given(redhat) by using command : cmd # : openssl passwd -1 -salt Etg2ExUZ redhat output : $1$Etg2ExUZ$F9NTP7omafhKIlqaBMqng1 My question is if we have salt and hash can we (HowTos)
