Clean install - Ubuntu 12.04, Gnome classic
Compiz's opacity effect (move mouse away from window, it becomes transparent so that I can see the window(s) below) works. But it does not start automatically, despite ticking the box in the opacity section to make it do so.
Every session I have to open the compiz settings manager, go do opacity, untick start automatically, and then re-tick.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and I'm not using Gnome mode.
I prefer to have most windows semi-transparent by default, so I set this in "Opacity, Brightness and Saturation" (CCSM):
type=Menu|PopupMenu|DropdownMenu|Combo|Dialog|ModalDialog|Utility|Tooltip|Notification Opacity=75
type=Normal Opacity=85
It works. However, a browser window looks wired with transparency.
Ubuntu Tweak, not an option for Opacity of the Top Panel.
I know how to change the Opacity of the task bar in Unity on Ubuntu 12.10 VIA Compiz. My question is, is there a way I can change the Opacity of the Menus? See, in the image below, it shows the App Bar that it almost transparent. But, on the Calendar, it is mostly black. I would like to make it match the App Menu and all other menus.
I am using compiz to make an app transparent.
Why do background windows have semi-transparent title bars in Unity? The foreground window is entirely opaque, but as soon it loses focus, it becomes transparent. It's as though Unity/Gnome are configured to make background titlebars transparent to indicate they are not on top instead of greying them.
Compiz? Unity? Video Card Driver? X.org?
Is there a setting to change this?
I'm displaying a page in an Android WebView.

I just upgraded from lucid/gnome2 to precise/unity. In gnome2, if you try to drag one window next to another one, there is a pause* when their edges meet so that you can align them perfectly. What is that behavior called? Can I get it in unity?
* The window stops moving once its border touches the border of another window, even as the mouse continues to move.
alright this may seem very vague but i will try to explain as best as i can. Randomly i will find that i cant click on windows. it seems utterly random because i will be able to click on a window one minute and a few seconds later it wont let me click on it. sometimes i am able to click on buttons inside the window but it doesnt allow me to click on my right panel or drag the window.
