I'm searching the easiest way to monitor the cpu usage of a single process in linux.

Also I want to plot the usage (nice look). graph and gnuplot are to ugly ;)
But plot is optional.
Seems like an simple question, but using Resource monitor and Performance monitor, I only seem to get snapshots of memory usage.
What is the best way to determine what available memory was at 03:00 hours yesterday? Is it possible to do with the built-in perfomance software of windows server?
You know that we can use the command top to monitor the real-time CPU usage and toggle the result display to the per-processor view by pressing key '1'. Top shows I'm using 1.7GB memory while the system monitor tool shows I'm using 560MB...
Is it possible to retrieve the "Total received" or "Total sent" numbers from the gnome-system-monitor from command line? Or are there other tools/packages that can record and output the total data usage?
The motivation is that I want to monitor my bandwidth usage every hour or so.
