OK guys, this is getting beyond me, I cant get Ubuntu to use the DIAL up USB modem, I have gone through every post on this site regarding this type of modem, and have got nowhere fast.
am not a programmer so can anyone provide the commands to set the USB ports up so that Gnome PPP can see them?
All it sees is the com ports, my modem is listed as "dev/ttyACM0" and that is not showng up
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 . I will explain my situation first .
I am using A USB modem which frequently disconnect for an hour or so. Then i will plug off it from ports and will insert again .Then it will search again and connect .
My idea is , is there anything i can do else without plugoff the modem from USB ports , i mean restarting powersupply to modem or USB port .
I am using two wavecom modem having 16 ports in each.
When i attach modem with my machine, i am able to get list of all /dev/ttyUSB port name, but i want to know also, which modem is containing port 0 to 16 and which one is containing 17 to 32 ?
This modem is going to attached and removed many time in single day, so i also want to keep watch , when modem get disconnected and connected again ?

I am new linux I created an application in java that connect the serial port of the gsm modem in Windows the serial ports name like COM3,COM7,COM15 but in linux redhat 6.0 I had to change name of the port to some thing like ttySx (X is number that came after S in /dev/ directory) but when I plug my gsm modem I to the linux it show me just (ttyUSB0-ttyUSB1-ttyUSB2) and there is no serial port for
Whenever i insert my usb gsm modem, i can see that initially it gets identified as /dev/ttyUSB0 but soon it disappears.
I've laptop with three USB3.0-ports.OS is Linux Mint 13 (yeah, it's Ubuntu-based). My modem Huawei E1552/E1800 could work in two modes:
1) as flash with drivers
2) modem
The device is operating as modem and seen in Network Manager if only it's attached before OS loading. If after, it's detected as flash.
I'm trying to set up a USB Fax Modem in Ubuntu through Virtual Box but I'm not sure how to do so. My goal is to be able to dial out to a phone and have the phone ring.

It's an old-school fax/modem that I'm trying to plug into a phone line, not a dsl modem.
I am using modem for sending sms which has 15 ports. I want to make udev rule to give device name "AMPM" and to be detected on Port ttyusb 0-15 only. So I created 10-modem.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/ directory. Its Contents are as follows.
I get my internet from a cable modem thru Comcast. My house has a smart panel with 8 LAN ports, each going to the 8 rooms in my house. The cable modem links directly to an 8-port hub which allows 8 lines to feed each of the 8 ports in the house's smart panel... so every room has a live ethernet wall jack.
In room #1, I have a netgear wifi router connected to the wall jack.
