Researchers want better electronic defects

I am trying to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on my ASUS u36j, right after I choose "Install Ubuntu" the screen just went blank and with no response. My take is that it's stuck on checking Disk for defects.

I tried several times the problem persists, so I chose an option that allows me to do advanced installing and I saw that the default first step is to check the disk for defects.

Does anyone know how can we check the phone for defects like dead pixels, etc when buying the phone? Does it have any test codes to enter just like Samsung phones with the *#0*#??

Quick question:

I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 on my USB stick in order to install it on my new Toshiba Z935 ultrabook. When it booted, I chose to check disk for defects instead of installing and it reported "1 error in 1 file". Didn't tell me what the error was nor in which file.

Proponents of the Agile approach to systems development claim they can build a business intelligence system with zero defects 30 per cent faster and 50 per cent cheaper than traditional methods would allow. Not surprisingly Government and big business is listening.

Does Asus still warrant hardware defects without questions if let's say the power button is not responding?
