I partitioned my hard drive with two separate partitions for Windows and Ubuntu. Now I want to repartition my hard-drive and I'm not really sure on how to do it.
I found some programs and tools to handle the partitions but not any info on whether it's possible to merge the two seperated partitions again. Is there a way?
I have a dual boot system Vista and Ubuntu.
To add a swap partition in hard disk /dev/hdb2, use the following steps:
Modern computers allow you to install two or more operating systems on a single hard disk. This configuration is known as ‘Multi-Boot’. Every operating system, such as Linux, employs one or more hard drive partitions. The way in which hard drive partitions and data is arranged, is known as hard drive geometry.
Linux newbie/windows intermediate user can't find his second hard drive. I have a dual boot MS Win Vista / Ubuntu 9.10 system.
First hard drive has 3 partitions:
Win NTFS with Vista loaded on it
Ubuntu 9.10 with ext4
A linux swap file.
The 2nd hard drive is visible in windows but I can't find it in Places -> Computer.
I have a couple of errors with my hard drive... I am using a 320 gb drive and I'm only seeing 289 gb with the partition and swap in system monitor. I look in the Palimpsest Disk Utility, I find that it does know I have a 320 gb hard disk. There are two warnings when I click "more info". It says "Reallocated Sector Count" and "Current Pending Sector Count" in red.
Hey there! Ok, here is basically a quick rundown of my situation:
Lets say I have two physical hard drives: drive 1 and drive 2. Drive one has two partitions, each with an OS on it. Lets say I make an image of sda2 (which has windows 7 on it) and save it for later. Not a full disk image, just a partition image.
Ok, so now I have a partition image of sda2 from hard drive #1.
Hey guys, I was moving and resizing my Ubuntu partition and for some reason my hard drive stopped reading and royally screwed my partitions up.
I know there is a command line tool in linux where you can view what partitions could be there and choose to ressurect them etc. but i cant remember what its called..
does anyone know of the tool that will help me with this?
How can I use a USB flash drive to boot Linux from a partition on (another) hard drive?
I'm trying to install Linux on an encrypted partition on the hard drive (using LVM on LUKS).
Since /boot must be on a separate, unencrypted partition, I would like to store it on a USB flash drive.
My plan was to install GRUB (2) to the flash drive (/dev/sdb) and boot Linux from it's MBR, or if the drive was
