Hello,
I have an older computer that's pretty outdated. I had Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it but in an attempt to upgrade it, the OS is now no longer usable. I found a 9.10 live CD which I can run but installation has become a problem.
When I tried using a newer CD, I get an error that the CD was created too fast so it can't be read.
I've installed apache2 on my ubuntu machine using the apt-get package manager. It installed apache 2.2.16. I'd like to upgrade to the latest (or at least a newer version) of apache2 but apt-get upgrade and update don't seem to find a newer version. When I type
apt-get install -s apache2
It tells me
apache2 is already the newest version.
Do I need to download this package manually?
I'm running centOS 6.3 which comes with gcc 4.4.6 and I installed gcc 4.6.3 using these instructions.
But when I type gcc -v it still says gcc 4.4 is the version I'm using. The newer version is under /opt/gcc-4.6.3.
When I run a make command do I have to specify a path to use the newer gcc? If so how do I do this, or can I replace the older version fully with the newer one? Thanks in advance.
I have ubuntu 10.10, and I have been learning c++ lately on it. I originally installed the gcc compilier via the command:
sudo aptitude install build-essential
I would like to start learning/testing the newer c++ features and I think it would be best to have the latest version of gcc installed.
I will be talking soon about the advantages of upgrading or installing a newer release of Ubuntu instead of sticking to an older version.
Thank you very much folks, i knew i could count on your help. My problem with Flare: RPG game was the following... When I tried to download the newer version of the software i accidently downloaded a tarball. What I was really looking for was a .deb file to quickly and easily instal the newer version.
After installing the Ubuntu multiverse to play restricted media files, I came across an error where the file would begin to play with only sound and no video, and all other computer activities would freeze including the mouse and keyboard.
I had some issues with ImageMagick and I was told Ubuntu's default ImageMagick package is an ancient version and I should upgrade to resolve my issues.
How can I do that? I have the latest Ubuntu version (12.10). Synaptic shows me 8:6.7.7.10-2ubuntu4 as the latest version of IM. It means my IM version is 6.7.7.10 (convert --version outputs the same). IM does not provide deb binaries itself.
Hi, I'm a Suse newbie and Windows-User.
I recently installed Suse 11.1 from the Live CD on an older PC. Suddenly, when booting up yesterday, the system announced corrupted IPtables and didn't load KDE. After login, I tried commands like KDE, run KDE but the bash didn't understand the commands.
