Reinstall GTK+ and Gtkmm

http://askubuntu.com – in a problem, I described in http://www.c-plusplus.de/forum/307002 (as "ChristophLu"), I have some troubles installing GTKmm. It seems that I have to remove GTK+ and GTKmm completly and reinstall it. But I do not want to reinstall my whole OS. Which packages/folders/files do I have to remove? What is it with pkg-config? In which order do I have to remove that? I only want to use GTKmm on my Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) (32-Bit), Kernel Linux 3.2.0-29-generic, GNOME 3.4.2 . PS: Sorry for language misstakes, I'm a German...
