My Ubuntu 10.10 system suddenly froze/crashed for no reason and I had to hard reboot my computer. Surprisingly it doesn't load anymore and stay stuck on a grub rescue prompt after an "unknown filesystem" message.
i have installed ubuntu inside windows and then afterwords i installed fedora 16...all time during start up its show os selection by grub loader but after i did some partition on windows its shows error:unknown filesystem.enterting rescue mode..
My computer has (had) a dual boot of Ubuntu Precise and Windows 7. Recently, when I started the computer, grub gave me an error saying "Unknown filesystem", and sent me to grub rescue. I searched for solutions to this, and found this answer: Unknown filesystem error: grub rescue.
F12 Live CD boots and runs fine. I installed to hard drive and now get:
Grub loading.
error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue> _
(it is hung - I cannot type any commands here)
I think I somehow have to use root and setup but don't remember and can't find specifics
Hi,
I'm a pretty new Ubuntu user, and I can't figure out what to do from searching other threads.
Anyway, here's my situation:
I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed on a partition, and OSX 10.7 on another, and it worked great. Then after I installed 10.8, my Ubuntu partition no longer worked.
Hello, I'm new here but have been using #!
Yesterday, I rebooted the server and it booted up to grub. Screen says 'Minimal BASH-like .... etc'. I've tried booting to the Server rescue mode from the install disk and tried reinstalling grub. I've tried the Boot Rescue Disk, still doesn't boot. I can get in and see all my files via the server rescue mode, but grub will not boot anything. No menu comes up, just the grub cli.
Hello
I've just upgraded to 12.10 from 12.04 over the internet.
I now get a prompt saying grub rescue.
How can I repair grub and allow my machine to boot?
Happy to post any info required to diagnose.
I think the word is ......... HELP
Many thanks
I installed F16 64 from a Nov'11 DVD a few days ago, was trying to find files from F16, and then grub disappeared.
I followed the instructions to replace bash, as it was missing, but the same grub error still keeps showing.
Code:
grub loading
welcome to grub!
error: file not found
entering rescue mode
grub rescue >
