Is it really necessary to do all of that just to get video drivers that don't destroy themselves?I just did a fresh install and when I hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 I'm just given a blank screen with a flashing cursor at the top left. Everything seems to run fine because if I hit Ctrl+Alt+F7 it takes me back to the desktop without a problem.
today i installed Ubuntu 12.04 64bit and after i restarted to boot into the OS for the first time Ubuntu screen without logo and then flashing cursor. I'm able to SHIT + CTRL + F1 to get into terminal, it flashes to and is centered on the screen. Installed with the same DVD on my laptop, which is running Intel HD graphics, and it's working like a charm. I'm confused! Got to be the drivers right?
Hello...
I decided to update F11 to F12 from the .iso and the upgrade process went smoothly and finished correctly, then at the end I restarted the computer as prompted by the installation tool...
I use the fish shell. I'm trying to run vim inside tmux with the solarized theme, but the colors are broken unless I run:
set -lx TERM screen-256color-bce;
before running tmux attach.
It's annoying having to run this every day, so I want to set the TERM variable permanently.
Hello,
I have a fresh install of the F19 beta running. I ran a full system update, and then added the RPMFusion repo & installed the akmod-fglrx drivers. I rebooted my computer, and everything is fine throughout the boot process, but then I get a black screen instead of a login screen. The screen stays lit up, it's just black. I can Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get into the command line.
Iam trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop edition. I downloaded it from Ubuntu releases page using torrent file( Ubuntu Live DVD). When I start install with the option Try ubuntu choosen, it hangs at purple screen. Iam able to switch by pressing Alt+Ctrl+F1.
Instead if I choose, Install ubuntu option, it hangs with a blank screen which just shows a mouse cursor.
I am inside a screen (screen -Ra). I have a long command, and I am at the end. Instead of keeping the left arrow, how can you go to the beginning of the line?
CTRL-A works when I am in a normal window, but when I am inside a screen pressing CTRL-A gives me a message "No other window" - seems like CTRL-A is dispatched to the screen.
How do you go to the beginning of a line in a screen?
I'm using GNU Emacs 23.2.1. within Xfce 4.8.0 (both coming from the Ubuntu Natty repository). I disable the CapsLock by running /usr/bin/setxkbmap -option "ctrl:nocaps" at the beginning of the Xfce session.
When I hit the CapsLock key with some other keys, Emacs treats it as if the Ctrl key and the Shift key is pressed (Ctrl-S-whatever).
I have updated a presario 2100 from 12.04 to 12.10 and am now faced with a wallpaper only screen. I get the log-in screen just fine, but once logged into my account, there is only wall paper and a mouse cursor. No sidebar, no upper menu, nothing. Ctrl/alt/T opens a terminal windows and that appears fine. The updater popped up and I ran it. I also ran a sudo apt-get update in term.
