I just installed Backtrack 5 in Vmware and i'm facing some difficulties with it when trying to connect to a wireless network with my USB wireless dongle.
I am able to start it up with ifconfig wlan0 up. I'm also able to see wireless networks in the wicd network manager, but when trying to connect to one of the wireless networks my wlan0 goes down immediately.
Recently I purchased for few bucks on eBay a wireless network adapter with name "EDUP 802.11N". This topic explains how to setup this device on Ubuntu.
I am relatively new to Linux and have been trying to use Backtrack 5 but it doesnt detect my wireless card so I cant connect to any wireless networks, I am using a Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC wireless card. I was wondering is there anything I can do like download drivers/patches etc. to make my internal wireless card work, or will I have to buy an external USB wifi adapter.
I have Slackware(x32) 13.1 installed on my computer. Everything runs just fine except it doesn't seem my wireless card.
I looked around and found a driver on the Realtek website. But, after I installed it, linux wouldn't boot. It would just hang.
Seeing the frustration many seem to experience with WiFi drivers (including myself), I thought it important to post the results of my effort. I tried all of the publicly available drivers I could find. Nothing worked. A simple email to Realtek support via their website fixed the problem. I sent the Version, kernel, and card information.
I know quite a few people have had this problem, but for the life of me I cannot find a solution to the problem. All i need is a driver for a Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC card. My card works ok in Win7 and Ethernet works on both operating systems.
Please could someone post a solution.
Thanks in advance
Hi, I bought a USB wireless adapter that uses the Realtek chipset RTL8188CUS.I saw that the drivers are already installed in the "Realtek-firmware" package. So i put the adapter in and it is recognized by the sysytem.I go to the network manager applet and I click "Create new wireless network", than i put in the network name and the WPA password. And here comes the trouble.
