My problem isn't actually in Linux, but most people here seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers as well, so I figured I'd ask.
Older pc's BIOS don't have ability to boot from usb and no upgrade from the mb manufacturer that makes that possible.
Usualy i load unetbootin to make usb bootable.
since this fails here, i want to ask for for a fast linux which starts from a 32mb harddrive and than enables the usb to boot from.
i already tried grub but as far as i know u have to predeclare the systems used, right?
I have an USB with the Parted Magic Linux environment on it made with UNetbootin, which I tried to boot from other computers and works perfectly.

I have followed all installation instructions and partitioned the drive as follows:
475 GB for Ubuntu and its files
25 GB of swap space
5 MB of reserved BIOS boot space
I attempted placing the bootloader in the BIOS boot space, in the Ubuntu partition, and on the drive itself - none worked. When I tried to boot Ubuntu, it said that the drive was not bootable and asked for a boot disk.
My laptop, an older Toshiba A100-250, won't boot from a CD or DVD when the HD is attached.
I tried everything I can think of:
Update the BIOS
Reset BIOS to default values
Change boot order in BIOS
Press F12 during startup to select the 'CD/DVD' as the boot device
Despite all efforts, it still won't boot from a bootable CD or DVD.
If I detach the HD (sata) all is working fine.

I dual boot my computer and laster decided to delete one of ubuntu partitions while using windows 7. After my computer hibernated and I tried restarting my ASUS laptop it stop at the logo and preventing me from emtering the bios. When I takeout my hardive it allow me to enter the bios. It those not boot from a cd if the hard drive is still attached to the computer.
