http://crunchbanglinux.org – Just saw an article on Phoronix about a new lightweight Qt based desktop enviroment that is being developed that aims to be "an advanced, easy-to-use, and fast desktop environment based on Qt technologies. It has been tailored for users who value simplicity, speed, and intuitive interface. Unlike desktop environments, Razor-qt also works fine with weak machines." (i.e. the Qt equivalent of Xfce?)I don't currently have the time to try it out/play around with it, but it looks like an interesting project that my fellow #!ers might be interested in knowing about.  Curious what (HowTos)

If you’re not happy with the default desktop environment (Unity shell on GNOME3) in Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), then you can try installing some alternative desktop such as MATE, Cinnamon, KDE etc or a lightweight desktop environment such as XFCE. Why go for a Lightweight Desktop Environment ?

Hi I was thinking about try a lightweight desktop for my Ubuntu.

I like Unity but am just curious to see how well they work.

While there hasn't been a new release since February, like the Trinity KDE 3.5 fork, the Razor-qt desktop environment continues to be actively developed. Razor-qt 0.5.0 will be released soon...
