Environment: Ubuntu Server 12.04, installing from bootable flash drive Error: No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.
I'm trying to set up a personal file server with software RAID 5. I just got three hard drives for this, but haven't found any solid documentation. I'm unsure what the basic way to partition my hard drives is.
I have Ubuntu 11.04 running on my home desktop which has 2 hard drives mirrored by RAID.
The drives are partitioned with a big data partition, a swap partition and a couple of 20Gb partitions for OSes, one is 11.04 which is in use, and the other is kept spare for installing a later version.
Hi all, I've just got a new laptop running windows vista 64 bit but going to be removing that & installing fedora 11 on it & seeing as Ubuntu doesn't come with a pae kernel as standard yet, fedora is the way to go :). the Hard drive is 2x500 gigs running in raid 0 mode
here's how I would like to install fedora
I have setup Raid 1 & Raid 10 in Virtual Box for learning purpose.
The following Partitions for 4 Hard Drives:
I make a 100mb partition (/boot) on four drives and make that a raid 1 partition.
Then with the remaining space on each drive, I've setup software raid 10 and configure it to LVM. In the LVM I setup a 4gb swap partition and 20GB for root partition (/) as ext4.
Hi guys,
I am trying to set up a home server with software raid.
My new system has a MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard with Intel G620 and 3 WD Caviar Green 2.5Tb hard disks
I followed following instructions:
http://wiki.graven-ict.nl/index.php/...oftware_RAID_5
Using ubuntu alternate on a USB drive to install it.
Basically I am making a partition of 256 MB on each disc
setting it up as Rai
Post title explains it all, here is more info.
I have a server with 3 hard disks, here is the layout:
hard disk 1: /boot and swap partition (DEAD)
hard disk 2: raid1 member
hard disk 3: raid1 member
I installed the boot parition on a separate hard disk because I read somewhere that it was not advised to put the /boot partition inside a software RAID array (which is what I am currently u
So my dad recently upgraded his business computers from P4's to I7's and now i have a server in my possession. The specs are: P4 3.2ghz, 1.5gb DDR 400, 120gb SATA raid 1, windows server 2003 :frown:.
The install works fine until I have to partition the hard drives and install it.
Hey,
So a while ago with the upgrade to 10.04 my 4TB RAID 1 partition stopped mounting at boot, I had to open GParted and let it scan the drives before it would mount (weird).
Now with the upgrade to 11.10 the same partition does not mount at all, I cant get it to mount by toggling the raid flag for the partition in GParted and them running
Code:
mount /dev/mapper/sil_bgadejajfgbb1 /some/
Apologies if this has already been covered; if it has I couldn't find it. First and foremost, this question does NOT pertain to a dual-boot system. I wish to set up a F16 system which uses GPT partitioning and needs a bios boot partition. I have two identical HDD's that will be set up as RAID 1 using software RAID.
