I have Dell Poweredge R710 server with PERC H700 Integrated RAID controller. Currently there are 4 SAS 300GB disks in RAID-10 array exposing single volume of 600GB. Server is running VMware ESXi 5.1.
I have 4 new SAS 300GB disks that I would like to add to this server to gain ~ 1.2 TB RAID-10 volume.
I wonder if I can do this expansion without loosing data on existing disks?
How should one connect a small storage array, four 3TB SATA drives for now, to two motherboards or controllers as a failover system? This means avoiding adding another single point of failure such as a single SAN device.
I have a server with a Supermicro motherboard that has an nVidia RAID controller on board. When I boot up, I can hit F10 and see/modify the RAID settings.
However, I don't want to reboot this server in order to check the status of the RAID array. Is there any kind of Linux/Ubuntu server CLI program that will let me do that?
Before my installation of 12.04 server I read a lot on the forum about raid install and problems with Grub not being able to boot from anything other than a raid 1 array. However I had no problem at all with installation on a raid 6 array (5 disks) using mdadm.
What I did using Alternate 12.04 CD:
1. Choose Manual partion
2. Wipe all 5 drives
3. Assign all drives to a Raid 6 array
4.
I have a p410i array controller that only has 256ram. We want to create a raid 5 so we have procured a 512 write back cache module.
If we install the write back cache, will this erase the existing raid information.
The server currently has 2 disks in raid 1. 6 are spare waiting for an upgrade to create a raid 5.
I have a raid 5 array constructed of three partitions, one of which is another array. This array should be assembled during boot so that it can be mounted and other services can access the mounted data.
A friend's machine running Windows XP refused to boot recently which is running 3 SATA disks on RAID 5 (which was previously upgraded from RAID 1 not by me). I have determined there to be a disk failure. The disks have been replaced many times in the past few years. I wish to backup the RAID5 partition before I try anything to fix it.
Hi,My server has an SSD for / and three HDs in RAID-5 on an old Adaptec 2610SA raidcontroller. This works very well and speeds are good, but I cannot compare.
Currently, I have 4 hard disks which have been configured as RAID 1+0 in HP Proliant 380 G7, SmartArray p410i. I am planning to buy other new 8 hard disks to replace old array by swapping the disks out and keep the old array as backup. I also make full backup and I will use this backup to restore to new 8 hard disk array.
