I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on an HP Pavilion dm1z, and I need some help finding the right driver/configuration for its AMD E-450 APU.
The default VESA Wrangler works adequately for light use, but chokes pretty badly on any sort of flash/high def video.
I tried enabling fglrx via the Additional Drivers menu, but then the system performs unbearably slowly.
There is also an option for
I have the ATI (AMD) HD7870 graphic card and I had just installed Ubuntu. With the Open Source drivers the desktop works fine; however, since I have a newer card, I'd like the proprietary drivers installed.
However, whenever I install it either from Additional Drivers, or from the AMD's website, I am able to log in, but then compiz immediately crashes and all I see is my desktop background.

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.2 and when I went to install the proprietary AMD/ATI drivers, I was given three choices:
ATI FGLRX -post release update
ATI FGLRX -experimental beta
Experimental AMD binary Xorg driver and kernel module
I installed first the post release update, but when I went to additional drivers it stated the driver is activated but not currently in use.
Hello there.
I am new to fedora.
I am trying to install my video drivers as KDE is a bit slow using the free drivers.
I downloaded
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...eon_linux.aspx
I also installed kernel, kernel-devel
Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers.
Fresh install of 12.04
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200]
'Additional Drivers' shows ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver, and ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates) as not installed. ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver says it installs successfully when I try.

I followed this link
Correct Way to install the graphic card drivers
The link seemed to work fine, as I was able to install the drivers; but with following issues"-
I wasn't able to run this command:-
sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
I was also not able to run this command:-
debconf libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases
But I am able to run fglrxinfo and
My graphic card is an ATI HD Radeon 5430 series
After a fresh 12.10 install the driver in use is
X.org X server - AMD/ATI display driver wrapper from xserver-xorg-video-ati (open source ,tested)
Is it safe for me to install one of the fglrx proprietary drivers as I am reading of all kinds of problems with fglrx in 12.10, though most of what I have read seem to involve older cards than mine
