I'm new to the forum, and I'm hoping to stick around and participate cause I'm really into my Android (JRO03C, v. 4.1.1). Tonight I successfully rooted it, which is awesome, however I'm baffled by one thing.
It was my understanding that when you unlock / root your phone (e.g. through Nexus Root Toolkit), you lose all the data on your phone.
I am kind of new to Android and rooting, so I need a little help here. So I have a Galaxy S4 and I want to root it. But if I want to install an software update, will I lose the root? I looked it up a lot and I heard that it will probably lose the root, but you will be able to re-root it.
We’ve all been in a situation before where we needed to either factory reset our phone, send it in for a warranty replacement, etc. Not a big deal by itself, but you’ve got 3 stars on 80% of Angry Birds levels, and who would want to lose that accomplishment? You want to be able to keep that data forever.
I'm currently rooted but didn't do anything to my Nexus 5. It's just rooted but it's on its stock ROM. My question is, on the next Android update, will I lose root? Will the update just erase root permission and update? If not, how can I unroot?
I rooted my Nexus 5 in one click using RT Root tool or something, TR Root for Nexus. It's an app. It didn't work very well, some apps still didn't work.
I've had my Nex7 for a few weeks now and I've decided to take the plunge and root it. I know how to do it (having done it on my GNex some time ago) but the problem is that I'd rather not lose everything on the tablet and start again.
Sorry for the rather n00bish question but I've been away from the root game for a while after years of being in it. I've been quite happy with my SGS4 since they came out but have finally come across a reason to root it and was wondering if a method existed to keep everything the way it is (apps, data & such) but gain root access.
Okay so the official update is out for all my friends and I want it too, but I'm rooted. Any help?
I know that I can unroot and then install the update, but if I unroot, do I lose all my apps? What happens to all my root apps? Do those disappear?
