Question on monitor resolution

http://forums.opensuse.org – He there I posted earlier about a resolution issue on my laptop, while I'm tinkering with that, I've tossed 11.2 on a desktop I've got laying around. I've got a different issue with this one, so I figured I'd start i new thread. Now, I've got the driver's for the 7600GT in this system installed ok. I can run nvidia-settings and view the Nvidia X server settings window. So all seems to be find on that front. Like the my laptop issue, I'm stuck at a low resolution. However unlike the laptop, it appears to be the monitor that isn't set up properly. What's the best course of action for this situation? I'm assuming my options are, -Finding proper linux driver's for the monitor? -Loading generic monitor driver's that support this monitor's native resolution of 1280x1024. -Going through the process of creating an xorg.conf with sax2 and specifying monitor information there. Am I on the right track with any of these solutions? I get the feeling that creating an xorg.conf might work. But I'd like to know if there's a way to do it by installing drivers first. I'm a little surprised that SUSE correctly identified the screen on my old laptop, but is stumped by this NEC LCD1735NXM. Thanks very much. (Distributions)

I am having trouble setting the correct resolution on my external monitor via HDMI

I have the gen3 Sandy Bridge processor with an Nvidia card. After I installed the Nvidia driver I got 640x800 resolution on my laptop monitor, but was able to set 1080p on my external monitor.

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000, 900 Mhz Pentium III, 192 MB RAM,10.1 GB disk running Lubuntu 12.04. When I start the computer, and I check the display resolution, Monitor Settings claims that the max resolution is 1024x768.

I am trying to clone 2 displays. I have a laptop with 1440x900 resolution and an external monitor with 1024x768 resolution.

Hi, I recently purchased a new widescreen monitor with a resolution of 1366x768. I've installed the latest NVidia beta driver, however it does not correctly detect the resolution of my monitor. I am running a twinview setup alongside another 1280x1024 LCD.

I am using MSI VR440 laptop http://www.msi.com/product/nb/VR440.html#?div=Specification . The laptop uses SIS Graphics card and has the resolution of 1280x800.

When I connect a desktop LCD monitor Samsung with the resolution of 1366x768, the desktop monitor displays the same resolution as that of the laptop, showing the copy of the laptop's monitor and making it distorted.

Hey guys i'm having a problem with my monitor.. I just installed ubuntu 11.10 and the monitor appears to be unknown with a resolution of 800x600.. When I install the discrete graphics card driver ATI the system reboots and now the monitor won't even turn up because of wrong refresh rates =\ My question is.. Is there a way to force a resolution without the xrandr commands?

I have a dual monitor set-up, one runs at 1280x1024 and the other has a native resolution of 1920x1080 but gets displayed at 640x480.

Note: My friend has the exact same monitor (bought from the same store on the same day) and it works fine.

So I have an Acer x163w widescreen monitor. In monitor setting my Monitor is an unknown. My resolution size is stuck at 1024x768 i believe.

I have tried manually to change the screen resolution and nothing. I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on an Hp Pavillion m7360 Desktop.

Updating the NVidia drivers sends my machine into a storm and things just fall apart until I have to do fresh install.

I'm using dual monitor on Ubuntu 12.10. Both monitor had same brand and type, the only difference is one using DVI cable and others using RGB. The DVI Monitor resolution are 1280x1024 and the other monitor are 1024x768. How I could change the resolution of my RGB monitor to be the same as DVI monitor.
