If I have a network like:
Group1 -> Switch -> Switch -> Server (configured as gateway by DHCP)
Group2 -> Switch -----^
(Hope that makes sense...)
When computers in each group send packets to other computers in the same group (so same switch), will the packets go all the way through the second switch to the server and back again or will they go directly to each other via the first s
A funny thing happened this afternoon.
After a restart of my home server (that I use as a testing environment for websites and as a backup for files on the other computers on the network) which is running Server 2008 R2, I am now unable to access the server or any of the shares on the server from any of the other computers on the network.
I was able too before, I haven't to my knowledge changed
How To Remotely Shut Down Windows XP Computers From A Linux Server
So I'm not a network guy - but here's what I want to do - I have an existing network using wifi, which I like, and which is used to connect several computers to the internet. It is headed up by a router, which is in another part of the building.
Three of those computers are in my office. All three have gigabit wired ethernet. I have a gigabit switch.
Hi, I'm a little new to linux and networking. I have a small server that I want to use as storage for my home network. I have a wireless router acting as a bridge that is getting wireless signal from our main router in the home and turns the signal into wired for my network. I have a 8 port switch hooked to the router which all my computers are connected to.
I don't know a lot about network switches. I was wondering if one would help speed up a network with three computers, a wii/netflix as the main internet connected devices? Would it be worth it to purchase one? And, yes, I do have slow upload speed to my server and the connection is in and out a lot. Would a switch be helpful?
I have a kvm-switch (keyboard, video, mouse) to switch between my 2 computers.
One runs on Ubuntu(latest version), the other on windows 7.
When i switch from one computer to the other, my display is not correct.
I am a bit new to vlan, so forgive me if I ask noob question.
I am trying to setup a vlan on my netgear switch (GS105E). I want to create 2 separated networks and I want both of them have internet access.
My setup is
Modem
connect to
router WRT54G (with dd-wrt)
connect to
netgear switch
I have configured port 1 and port 5 as vlan1 and port 2 to port 4 as vlan2.
I have currently 3 switches
Two Netgear JFS524 with 24 slots,
One Belkin with 16 slots.
Server
DSL Internet Router.
Main question is how to connect switches together, two Netgear's are next to each other, yet one is about 100 feet away and holds about 5 computer and 5 phones.
If i connect them with only 1 wire will that limit bandwidth? e.g.
