Hi there. I tried searchin help at the #Ubuntu IRC, but didn't get any help, hence I came here. :)
So down to the problem!
When I change the volume under ~20% it goes mute.
Here is le badly drawn picture of my desktop
At the top right you can see the volume editor. The current volume level that you can see in this pic is mute on my computer.
The Toshiba Satellite A-305 S6916 laptop has six semi-touch buttons above the keyboard. The 'buttons' are capacitative touch areas which toggle on and off. They are back-lit when on, dark when off.
The buttons are audio controls -- mute, media, play, stop, back and next.
Hello, I need an answer to my troubles. When I turn on the music player I can control the media volume with the volume controls on the side. When I close the media player the volume controls do not go back to controlling the ringer/notification volume (Sound/Vibrate/Mute). Instead they still control the media volume. Any suggestions?
I just noticed that the media keys on my keyboard are not working: volume up, volume down, mute,...Also, ctrl+alt+L is not locking my screen.I'm wondering if this is a gnome-settings-daemon issue. g-s-d is running, and working in part because it sets my background, but why are none of these other keys working?Which application actually handles these keys?
I have Ubuntu 12.04 running on my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420s. My issue is that whenever I use the dedicated hardware volume buttons (up or down), the volume will go up the first time I press the button, and on the subsequent press, the volume will mute. If I press it again, the volume will go up, and on the subsequent button push, the volume will mute again.
Just before going to sleep, i take my tablet to play some relaxing game and listen my music from shoutcast. But the problem is in the volume level. What i mean is, if i start from mute,, and i just press one time the volume+, the sound is too loud, my wife want to sleep.
I know i can plug headphone, but not in my bed.
Is anyone else genuinely annoyed with the fact there is no volume lock option on this device? When I want to lower the volume with the rocker on say the lock screen, only the ringer volume goes down, and I have to click the gear icon to manually adjust the volume for the notificatons/media/etc.

I have no media volume at all. I have tried to turn it up multiple ways. In settings/volumes, media volume is greyed out and wont allow adjustment. I hold down power, media volume showes muted. I click unmute but as soon as i leave options it returns to muted. I have even tried 3rd party volume control apps and get the same thing.
