I'm about to flash a custom recovery, but I'm not sure if my bootloader is unlocked or not (phone is rooted, but I did it a while ago, so I can't remember the process I took), and I don't want to do anything that might risk losing all my current data. Can I simply run fastboot flash recovery [recovery image], and if it doesn't work, take that to mean my bootloader is locked?
I am currently running rooted stock rom with HTC Dev unlocked bootloader with clockwork recovery. When I tried to download and install OTA it of course fails. I installed stock recovery, same thing installation always stucks at 1/3. I tried relocking bootloader, i tried un root.
First off, what is really happening when we are rooting? Even if I flash custom rom like clockworkmod, will I have to root again?
Do I have to unlock the bootloader then install the rom? If yes, why? What work does the bootloader do in regards to installation of the rom?
Why can't I put any random rom in any random phone?
What is shell?
What is a kernel.
I'm reading for few days now and I'm confused in two things:
1) unlocking bootloader
When using Hasoon2000 All-in-one toolkit I get different token, also fastboot oem get_identifier_token gives every time different token :/
Am I doing something wrong or it is normal?
2) making stock backup
Please correct me if I'm wrong
First I have to unlock bootloader, then I have to run custom recover
I have Verizon HTC one Rooted and S-OFF and bootloader unlocked. However when i am trying to flash any custom roms like the team eclipticone , it is not getting flashed. Can you please help me with a detailed guide as i am new to HTC rooting process.
