The dash home search box does not retrieve items searched for.
The Ubuntu Software Center starts, but becomes faded and has to be forced to quit in order to close it.
I recently upgraded to 11.10, but now my Dash Home has no content. No search bar, no apps, not even an empty dash windowpane. Basically, I click on Dash Home, the launcher turns translucent, but nothing else happens.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
how do I get the dash home search box and ubuntu soft ware center to work?

I'm an absolute newby for Linux / Ubuntu. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an old computer. It seemed to work fine. However today when I started the computer again the software center had disappeared!!
It wasn't in my starter list.
Hi, I use Ubuntu 12.04 with, I think it is called dash home. When I go to dash home, it shows me files and things I have recently used.
Recently, I asked my girlfriend, who is in Germany at the moment to send me, in China, a couple of photos of herself, just to refresh my memory.
Today in class, I went to dash home, and there they were.
In dash all applications including terminal do not show up. Software center does not load, just grays out and stops. OS will not read a USB drive to try reinstall of 12.04. Now what can I do to get terminal, dash and software center working?
I apologize if this is easily answered but I've been Googling for about an hour and can't find an answer. Is there a way for me to vertically center my dash favorites bar in Fedora 16 (Gnome)? I'm using the Dash to Dock user extension which always places the dash on the desktop but I don't like it's positioning (currently above vertical center).
I tried doing multiple things but nothing worked. I used ctrl-f2 to try and run terminal, but nothing happened. I went to the Dash to go to Add More Apps and nothing came up.
Is there anyway to find and use the terminal/fix the Software Center?
I posted a video to Youtube, and I think the youtube description and/or video (a short desktop recording with me speaking) pretty much sum it up.

I just wanted to post this to the askubuntu.com forums. This is for an up to date Ubuntu 12.04 ("Precise Pangolin") installed on a laptop.
