Proper setup of local DNS for Ubuntu servers and OSX/WIn clients

http://serverfault.com – I have struggled with this for a cpl of days now, so bare with me. Somehow I think this setup should be fairly "normal" for a home LAN. I have a setup with 5 machines on my LAN. All static addresses and on the 192.168.0 network. My ADSL router is 192.168.0.1. One of the servers is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I want to setup it to: 1) resolve names on the LAN. I was thinking I'd have a domain .local so that my servers would be server1.local, server2.local etc. 2) forward other DNS-queries to the ADSL router 3) cache DNS-queries for faster lookup I would then like to setup all clients to belong (HowTos)
