problems getting kindle fire on Fedora 17, help

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – First off I can say that my android tablet is recognised as mass storage device right off and I can access it through dolphin. However nothing happens with my daughters kindle fire hd. I have had partial success copying books/docs with calibre. I have mixed success with mtp but I am not sure if I am setting up mtp etc right. I can get the kindle fire recognised by mtpfs /mnt/kindle and I can see the mountpoint in dolphin. When trying to copy files I get error message about can't change permission and nothing is copied. I have mess around with various permissions but no good. Any advic (HowTos)

My Kindle Fire 1st Gen is rooted, but still has stock ROM. I've installed the latest drivers using the Kindle Fire Utility v0.9.6.

But now I can't access the kindle through a USB connected to my PC. So I can't copy a new ROM to the SD card.

When connected to my PC through USB cable, Device Manager shows it as Android ADB Interface - not Kindle.

Back story: I purchased a used Kindle Fire on Ebay about a week ago, not knowing that it had been rooted. I was looking for a standard Kindle fire for my son so he would stop using my tablet (lol) and the parental controls are better and more books and so on... none the less when I got it I noticed that it booted differently (I had a kindle fire prior) and it booted into Android.

To begin, I have read both Is there a way to get a Kindle Fire to work with 12.04? and How can I transfer files to a Kindle Fire with a Micro-USB cable?

My problem is that I am unable to mount my Kindle Fire in order to add books to it.

I've attempted to root my kindle fire with the kindle fire utility and it wasn't 100% successful. Im stuck on the kindle fire screen where it's booting up and it's on an endless cycle whether plugged into the computer, or charging through the outlet. It's also completely unrecognized when I do plug it into my laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated to unbrick it.
