So here is my problem...
I used to use Unity as my main DE (Ubuntu 11.10 64bit) obviously.. however its too much hassle for me to use it, so I installed KDE (installed kubuntu-desktop package from Software Center)
Everything is running great until my monitor turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity and pc freezes immediately..
So all power management settings are disabled. And we don't get the login prompt when the tv stays on for a long time. The comp does not go to standby. We even disabled 'show login after screensaver'
But when we turn of the LG TV connected (LG 47LM760S) it seems to sent a signal to Ubuntu to put itself on the lock screen.
Hey guys.
I just tried liking up my Aspire One Netbook which is running Gnome fallback (Ubuntu 12.04) to a View Sonic television, which can also be used as a monitor.
At first I thought HDMI might not support sound, but of course it does as it's the only cable I use to connect to my xbox.
Anyway, I manage to get the screen output on the television but there is no sound.
I am running Linux Mint 13. The problem is that whenever I connect/disconnect an external monitor to my laptop it freezes. If the monitor is connected on boot it works fine. Any ideas ?
I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop which has the following specifications:
CPU: Intel Pentium B950
Graphics: Intel Integrated Graphics 2000
Memory: 4GB
Everything works fine, however occasionally the computer freezes (I can still move the mouse, but nothing responds) and the screen starts flickering. The only thing I can do is a hard reboot.
I have read every single post about system freezes, but cannot find my exact problem.
Basically, Ubuntu 11.10 is randomly freezing. When it happens, I cannot do anything, not even move the mouse. Everything is locked up, even the keyboard is not responding (num lock does nothing).
Was experimenting with the new Television, via HDMI last night and noticed the fn-F8 keystroke to switch between LCD and HDMI output doesn't work. The work-around I found was to use fn-F7 to turn off the laptop's LCD screen. It switches to the TV and then back when you're done.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and my laptop* won't wake from sleep/suspend/hibernate. (Is sleep the same thing as suspend?) I'm not even sure which of these things it's doing. When I am done working for the day, I lock my screen (Control-Alt-L).
Recently I've had this issue where Ubuntu freezes before I can get to the login screen or even the boot animation. It started off with myself leaving the PC on overnight, steam downloading tf2. I come down the next morning to see that Linux needs me to login again. I do so, but it seems like steam is closed.
