http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hi everybody, I`m using Fedora 11. I just bought a Creative Audigy Soundblaster sound card. It is recognized by the system, but I can`t make it play sound on all channels in xmms or mplayer. The alsa test confirms that all channels are working - I can hear sound from all of them. I have read several posts in other forums about modifying my ./asoundrc, but they just don`t seem to work. I`ll be glad if anybody can help me with this. Thanks in advance. (HowTos)

I have been working on this issue for several days now and still cannot get my sound card to work. Basically, I have a Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D sound card installed in a PCI slot and I am unable to play any sound through it. Note that I have the on board sound disabled in the BIOS. Also, it is my understanding that this sound card is supported as of kernel 3.5.

As the title alludes to, I am using Linux Lite 1.0.4 and I am having problems getting the sound to work properly.

My sound card is a PCI - "Creative Labs, Sound Blaster Live 5.1" surround sound card, and the problem is, I cannot get sound from anything other than the front speakers.

After upgrading ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, pulseaudio says that my Toshiba Multimedia Center soundcard is 4.0, but this is fake, because it's 5.1 surround sound card.

I'm tired by searching for good pulseaudio/alsa config, so I'm looking for external sound card fully working with Ubuntu.

My preferences: * USB or ExpressCard interface

My audio card (Audigy Sound Blaster) was noisy (it sounded like a scratchy record previously on Windows XP but got much worse on Ubuntu) so I bought a cheap new StarTech 4CH card. When I put it in the PCI slot and booted up, my system ceased to acknowledge there was a sound card on board. I swapped back to the Audigy that functioned noisily before and it wasn't recognized either.

I have this sound issue ever since Ubuntu 10.x. I am on 11.10 now and I was hoping this would have been fixed.

I would like to use 5.1 speaker sound, so I go to the speaker icon in the top right of the screen and select sound properties, navigate to hardware tab and select 5.1 analog mode. This works wile sound is playing e.g. from Banshee music player.

I've read what feels like every forum post going with regards to this issue, nothing is helping, ive got no sound from my soundcard and yet Pulse volume metre for playback shows sound.

Hello, could you help me. I could not get surroundsound running. It is an Asus A5ION board with ALC887 chip onboard. It has 3 jacks on back that should offer 5.1 sound according to the manual of the board and 2 jacks on front panel. Speaker-test -D surround51 -c 6 gives me sound on LF,Center,RF and very low volume sound on RR,RL with some mumbel from the sub, sub test mubles sub.

I don't get any sound when I play a video DVD with vlc media player.

This is on a FC 17 64 bit machine, Xfce spin.

I have sound when I play Youtube videos in Firefox. I have sound when I play sound files from xmms. (Don't know what Mplayer would do. I find it's interface too mysterious.)

Anyone know what problem would be peculiar to vlc ?
