Hello! I am trying to play runescape in HD.I got a GeForce 9600M GT video card. I uninstalled the xorg-x11 driver-video-nouveau driver wich was installed by default then added Nvidia in the repositories and installed what i got from Nvidia repository. But i still get Runescape was unable to enter that display mode when i try to run RS in HD mode.

Asus K55V, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Nvidia driver 304.51.
I have remove the nouveau driver with:
apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
I installed the official nvidia driver (from www.nvidia.com) but when I reboot the PC the resolution of screen is only 640x480 and the monitor is resized.
Mo solution at this problem if i change the xorg.conf.

While I mostly use the gfx for normal usage, to hook up to an external display, I have to use the nvidia card. After playing around on my F17 test installation with new kernels and nVidia drivers, I have discovered that installing a binary nVidia driver from nVidia works with a new-ish kernel (one without akmod or kmod support), and everything runs fine. The nVidia installation goes smoothly, and there are no issues.
