The GNOME Shell redefines user interactions with the GNOME desktop. In particular, it offers new paradigms for launching applications, accessing documents, and organizing open windows in GNOME. Later, it will introduce a new applets eco-system and offer new solutions for other desktop features, such as notifications and contacts management.
Hello,
I have just taken the plunge and installed F17. I stuck with F14 until now, for fear of GNOME 3. But I decided I had to take the plunge.
I've managed to get most things working. But now I need to learn how to use GNOME 3.
Hello everyone.
I am new to Fedora and have little experience with linux overall, having tried Mint, Ubuntu, openSUSE and a few others. I personally like the gnome-shell and have had no problems so far in other distros.
Hi.
I've recently installed the 32bit version of Fedora 12 on my Toshiba notebook, running a ATI HD 3650 Mobility graphics card. Upon installing mesa-dri-drivers-experimental.i686, "Desktop effects" still complains about "Accelerated 3D graphics not available".
There seems to be a problem with the module r600_dri.so, Xorg.0.log states
I will share a modicum of what I have learned to date about customizing the new GNOME 3 Shell. This is based on the GNOME Shell in Fedora 15 Alpha. The good news is that the GNOME Shell is highly configurable. The bad news is that some of this information may become out-of-date quite quickly as the GNOME Shell is still somewhat of a moving target even though it is supposedly close to release.
Gnome 3.2 was released a few days back. With an improved shell and various other integrations, this shell will please many users.
This is the first time that I'm trying Arch and I only have one problem, the one that's in the title. I installed lxde and everything is working fine. Video drivers are working great (I can play Team Fortress 2) whit out a problem, and Gnome-shell loads just fine. I can go to Activities, switch desktop, click on the indicators, but as soon as I try to open an app, all crashes.

I am sure this is a silly question but I can't for the life of me find an answer. Obviously, Gnome3 is capable of organizing applications by category, and when I am in Gnome Classic, of course it does. However, when I am in the new shell this category view disappears.
