Problem with external screen.

http://www.linuxquestions.org – I just downloaded linux and instaled it. Ok so far, i rebooted and selected Ubuntu, a loading screen comes with ubuntu and a purple background, but the screen trembles a little. After the the loading ends my external screen blacks out and says No signal found 3.2khz 4.7hz. Also, i use laptop and my screen is broken, when the message (no signal found) to my external screen appears, my laptop's screen opens. The problem is, my laptops screen is so badly broken i can't see a thing. Is there a problem with my external screen, like it needs drivers or is there an option to ubuntu about external scr (HowTos)

It's more a hardware problem than an Ubuntu problem, I think, but maybe there is a workaround.

I'm using a HP DV7-1145ef laptop with a HDMI output. I'm also using an external display (HP 2275W) with a DVI input. Both are linked with a HDMI/DVI cable.

Hi! I'm running OS11.2 w/KDE 4.3.4 on a Dell Latitude D820 laptop. Graphiccard: Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M

Laptop is docked in a docking-station(D-dock) and to dockingstation i have connected an external 22" LCD-screen. I use Nvidia-settings to configure TwinView and define the external screen to be the primary.

So, I start Ubuntu on my laptop, then I plug in my external monitor and I go to preferences and click on display to change the screen from laptop io the external one, just as I click on display, the laptop screen goes dark, only I see the mouse pointer, and nothing on the external screen. If I turn on the computer with the external display plugged in, everything works fine.

I've been trying to solve a problem I'm having with a laptop and FC17.

The problem is that the laptop LCD is broken and the screen is not visible (garbled, smudged, cracked). When I boot FC17 it insists on using the broken LCD as the login screen. No matter what I've done I cannot seem to convince X to boot favoring the external monitor.

I have a macbook air with intel graphics, yesterday I disabled the laptop screen while I used an external screen and today whenever I plug it in the laptop screen goes off and the external monitor does not come on.

I just installed the XFCE version of fedora and while it mostly works, there are a few issues that get in the way. As a bit of background, I am running this on a Toshiba Satellite L775. The actual laptop is connected to a 20" external screen positioned below the laptop. I use this external screen as my primary screen (while at home).

I'm currently using an external screen with my laptop at home connected with a serial port. When I'm in X, my laptop display is automatically disabled, when the external screen is connected. Is there a way to do this also at boot time? Where do I have to configure this? Also I'd like to have my login shells on my external screen, when switching to them out of X.
