http://askubuntu.com – Am running some legacy software for my business, which runs on dBase 5, which has been updated over the years with a great deal of investment in time; this runs our finances, ordering, etc. pretty well. In order to be able to switch my business to Ubuntu (which I would like to do), I have to be able to run these programs, and particularly print data. I have tried printing in DosEmu, but that locks the program up, have tried DosBox, which seems to be more stable and runs things fine, but will not print. So I tried printing to a file in DosBox and have this manually printed with: lp -d HP-Laser (HowTos)

I have installed ubuntu 11., dosbox . I need to execute foxpro programs. It works fine for entry. But it cannot print lpt printer.

Dosemu prints on lpt printer. But it crashes for entry.

It's been messing up a lot lately, as in, delays several seconds before printing, then once it starts to print, it takes a long time. It use to print as soon as you would click "Print". But now, it's extremely slow and I'm not sure why. It's not that old. Bought it about a year ago and it worked just fine. But lately, the main problem is printing pictures.

I just installed dosbox in a Fedora 18 system

When I run dosbox at the command line it says

Exit to error: Can't init SDL no available video device

This is on a Dell C610 laptop

What am I doing wrong?

Hello,

I have no problem with printing text files... But when I want to print some image... The image is not printed (although it's visible on the print preview)... The problem occurs in all Libre office programs and in most PDF programs except Adobe... It seems like the printer doesn't print if it can't recognize the font... Does anyone have any clue what should I do?

Hello, firstly I'm not sure if I am in the right section but I need some help with Dosbox as the title suggests.

Just upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10... OpenOffice has been replaced by LibreOffice. Looks the same, but does not behave the same...

I have a spreadsheet with 4 tabs. The 1st tab contains schedule data that I print out regularly... the other 3 tabs/sheets are info and never get or have been printed.

I attempted to print out the first sheet, and it printed just fine...

I have copys of the 4 MSdos disks on file for Dune and I would like to get it running again on Ubuntu, I also have DosBox which I have used to run "Dune" on windows and that works fine.

I have absolutly no idea where to start, can you help

I've been running FC16 for almost a year now and my Canon MF4360 laser printer has worked fine. I just noticed that I can no longer print from the linux command line. When I print using lpr, the printer starts up but nothing comes out. If I print from firefox or open the file browser, I can print just fine.

Could this be a conversion problem when preping the text file from the command line?
