Hi there :)
I have successfully booted multiple ISO images from a flash drive with ONE SINGLE FAT32 partition, following:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1288604
However, I have partitioned my 16Gb flash drive into two FAT32 partitions, and "/dev/sdb1" is where grub2 was installed using:
Code:
sudo grub-install --force --no-floppy --root-directory=/media/my_sdb1_mount_
How can I use a USB flash drive to boot Linux from a partition on (another) hard drive?
I'm trying to install Linux on an encrypted partition on the hard drive (using LVM on LUKS).
Since /boot must be on a separate, unencrypted partition, I would like to store it on a USB flash drive.
My plan was to install GRUB (2) to the flash drive (/dev/sdb) and boot Linux from it's MBR, or if the drive was
I'm not sure how to explain this in the subject better, so the "question" may not be right. But here goes. I have three hard drives. Drive A is a 320GB drive, Drive B is a 80 GB Drive, and Drive C is a 1TB Drive.
Well I know it isn't ruined, but I just dd'd the newest DSL onto my 4GB flash drive. The problem is, I without thinking copied it right over the partition table and now the flash drive shows up named "KNOPPIX" and says it is locked. Even after using gparted to completely erase it AND create a new file system several times over, it is still named KNOPPIX, and locked. Any ideas?
Hi all, I am installing Ubuntu on a flash drive with LUKS encryption using the alternative CD. I'm confused as to whether I need to prepare/partition the flash drive beforehand.
I have been generally following the guide Ubuntu Encrypted Flash Memory Installation and Method 1 of LiveUsbPendrivePersistent.
Greetings all,
After a recent hard drive replacement, I find that I can no longer
boot my Ubuntu partition. It seems that Ubuntu set up GRUB to boot
using the disk id, which is no longer valid.
I've been using the old GRUB for a number of years, and have always
used the LABEL= syntax to assure that the correct partition is booted.
I have two drives. Drive A has windows xp on it (only 1 partition) and the partition is encrypted with TrueCrypt. Drive B has a boot partition that has GRUB2 stuff on it and also an LVM partition that has Arch Linux in it.
Hello all..:D
I have a good Redhat 9 install on my hard drive.
But I need to use this install on another computer.
So I formatted an USB flash drive as ext3, installed grub in it and copied my existing / filesystem on the hard drive to the USB flash drive.
For testing the install, I disabled my hard drive, floppy drive and CDROM drive in the BIOS setup.
Hi
I'm having a problem getting grub to detect my XP partition.
Original configuration:-
Hard drive partitioned with primary partitions (Vista and Vista restore) and an extended partition for data
did not want anything to do with Vista so
I Installed XP in extended partition
Vista boot manager offered Vista or XP
All worked for years
Decided to remove Vista and dual boot with Ubuntu
