Hello!
There is currently only one issue that is keeping me from converting 100% to kubuntu. And that is the dreaded ATI powermanagement that is overheating my laptop. I have a ATI Radeon HD something that always overheats due to powermanagement.
IT seems though that with each new release of the buntu lineage, some issue between buntu and my HP Paviligion G7 laptop is resolved.

Hello everybody, i am on a laptop and I installed Ubuntu last night and absolutely love it. The only problem I'm having is that my computer shuts off. I had the exact same problem with windows xp and vista, I figured out that it had something to do with the Hibernation/Lid/powermanagement features with turning hard disks off after a certain time.
Hello,
As the title says, I am running xubuntu 12.10 and there is seemingly no way for me to adjust power settings, as it doesn't show up in settings.
I can't suspend my laptop, I can't hibernate it, the battery indicator in the tool bar has disappeared, and I am growing very frustrated after hours of looking through forums because no one seems to have my exact issue.
This week, the Commit Digest includes a featured article about Kst, the fastest real-time large-dataset viewing and plotting tool.
Also in this week's KDE Commit-Digest:

I've been trying to get the most out of my laptop's battery. I've seen this post: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagement/PowerSavingTweaks. They describe what can be done if you have a Sandy Bridge Processor.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500. And a GM965 chipset. What can I do to minimise the power usage of my laptop?
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I like the way Xfce works on top of Linux Mint 14 Nadia (Quantal) - but I also like LXDE that I want to have in parallel. Mint 14 has no LXDE "version" now, and that is too bad.
I heard that installing multiple DE is not a problem. But ...
I had to reinstall xfce
I used yum reinstall xfce*
but this time xfce did not appear automatically in the gdm login
I looked for information and found that I could bypass gnome completely and load xfce through X
by editing /etc/ttys and also creating a desktop in /usr/share/xsessions/xfce.desktop
I created the xsessions/xfce.desktop
but my /etc/ttys is completely empty
since it i
Hi all,
I have installed pm-utils on my LXDE F18 (pre-beta) boxen and want to reduce the backlight brightness when the power adapter is unplugged.
I have created the following script:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/sh
# /etc/pm/power.d/backlight
# set backlight brightness depending on power source
LEVEL_AC=10
LEVEL_BAT=8
BRIGHT=/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
