Written by: David Heath | Published in: SpacePointing and laughing at the December 21st hoax is easy. Even easier to point and laugh at the (supposed) grown ups who think it's true. But what of the children who have heard the theories?

A local extended weather forecast (on television) jokingly stopped at 8 days, instead of going to 10 days, with the prank of not showing any weather after next Friday Dec.21 - counting it as the Mayan doomsday date.

Not sure if the number 13 was all that significant to the Mayans anyway. It is considered by some that this past year was 12.19.19.19.19 in the Mayan number base 20 counting system -

Pope Benedict, the leader of the Catholic Church, has stated that the use of condoms is acceptable if it helps to reduce the spread of AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) in the world.
