Please advice regarding Solaris

http://www.unix.com – Greetings all, My name is Miguel and Im a new member. I post this question because I didnt find an answer for it after googling for an hour (if you do find the answer, please point me to it) My problem is that I have a job interview and theyre requiring basic knowledge of Solaris. Now, Ive never seen a SPARC machine or Solaris other than at a friends office. I use Linux (Debian) and have tinkered with FreeBSD on an old x86 machine, having no problems with it. My questions are: is there a big difference between FreeBSD and Solaris? If I know my way around BSD and/or Linux, can I see id feel (HowTos)

I'm about to buy a used Sun Sparc machine (Sun Blade 2500 Ultrasparc IIIi 1,28Ghz) in order to use it as a personal development server. Problem is, it is sold without any OS. I would like to install a Solaris system on it, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I think Solaris 10 should work, since it was released the same year than the machine, but I'm not sure.

I know a little about linux kernel.

I am trying to have my computer run four operating systems, FreeBSD, Solaris 11, Fedora, and XP(soon to be 7).

My FreeBSD, Solaris 11, and Fedora are all to be partitioned on a different hard drive than my Windows OS. Currently, I have Solaris 11 and Fedora installed on this hard drive, but not FreeBSD.

Hi All, Actually i need to install solaris 10 version over VMWare which is installed over my windows machine. On that solaris version i need to install Weblogic application server, I need to know where can i download SOLARIS 10 for this and also what is the difference in SPARC and x86 version and which should i download?

I've got a Solaris 10 workstation that I'd like to create a full image backup from. The machine has 2 drives, one UFS for system root, and 1 ZFS for data storage.

I intend to add a third HD to keep the backup images of both primary drives (including any zfs snapshots).

Hi Guys,

I need some assistance with getting vnc viewer from an WinXP machine to be able to connect to a vncserver on Solaris.

I have run vncserver on Solaris and i get the following message:-

Is this right ? i see there are a couple of errors in the log file.

I can actually connect to the Solaris machine but when i do i just get a grey screen with a cursor and nothing else.
