Hi all. I'm running CrunchBang Waldorf and often an application crashes randomly or the whole system just freezes and can only be brought back by a hard reset. I seem to remember this kind of behaviour can be due to the RAM being broke / not working properly anymore, but I'm not sure if this is the case. Is there any way I can gain more insight into what exactly causes the crashes?
I recently installed Pidgin and tried to install pidgin-facebookchat. Ubuntu software center now says that pidgin is corrupt so I press repair but nothing gets fixed.
I've tried sudo apt-get purge pidgin but I get this error:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...
i started up pidgin and it will give me the screen for a bit, and then it will disappear.
pidgin privacy please is a pidgin plugin to stop spammers from annoying you. You can block messages from certain users, block messages from people who are not on your contact list and suppress repeated authorization requests.
As of this morning, I have experienced a couple of serious X crashes, where my system has dumped me back to the SLiM login screen. I have experienced similar crashes under Sid over the last couple of weeks, but this is the first time I have experienced them under Wheezy.

Sometimes when I'm using Audacity and I perform an action (it can be pretty much anything, like deleting, zooming in, etc.), Gnome immediately crashes and restarts, returning me to the login screen.
I tried installing Audacity from the PPA, but the problem persists. Sometimes I use JACK and sometimes I don't, and the crashes occur either way. Gnome never crashes on this computer otherwise.
Pidgin is a nice chatting client that is pre-installed in a lot of Linux distributions. Pidgin supports many chat platforms like yahoo, facebook, irc, AIM ... but unfortunately, the popular social network Twitter is not on this list.
However, with the help of a plugin called pidgin-microblog, you can update and check twitter and some other social networks like Identi.ca, Status.net ..
I was installing pidgin-otr through the terminal and for some reason i got an error saying that the package was incomplete, after a little searching on the forums i found the command to force-remove the pidgin and pidgin-otr package, and after i re-installed it was fine.
strange problem though, maybe i was trying to do too many things at once?
