I'm running Ubuntu 12.10. Pidgin starts automatically on startup, but I want the buddy list window to starts minimized.
I tried this: http://www.cebuntu.com/apps/how-to-start-pidgin-and-minimized-on-startup...
And this shell script: http://planet.jboss.org/post/how_to_start_pidgin_minimized_or_always_sta...
but none of them work.
Hi,
Until a few days I had no problem in connecting to facebook chat with pidgin (using XMPP protocol as facebook helps says).
Now, every day a message appears:
agunet@chat.facebook.com/pidgin disconnected
Service unavailable
anybody know why ? And how can I fix it ?
thanks
Facebook just gave its iOS users some features that could make their Android friends jealous. Apple lovers can now upload multiple photos at once, give Gifts, and slide out a buddy list of who chattable. There’s still no photo filters, though. Here’s a look at the new features in v5.1, and what I think will be added in the next release.
I have downloaded the pidgin source code from the following location.
http://www.pidgin.im/download/source/
After compilation, when i run the pidgin, i don't see any option for IM sites (like Facebook, gtalk.. etc). I have attached a screen shot to show the issue.
Please help
As it is showing in screen, there is no option coming in protocol drop down list.
I have Pidgin 2.10.3 (libpurple 2.10.6) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
When I want to start Pidgin the icon appears in Unity but not the window, to open the Pidgin window I have to click "quit" in laucher and start it again, only after trying 2 times I can open the Pidgin window, (Buddy List).
Pidgin is a nice chatting client that is pre-installed in a lot of Linux distributions. Pidgin supports many chat platforms like yahoo, facebook, irc, AIM ... but unfortunately, the popular social network Twitter is not on this list.
However, with the help of a plugin called pidgin-microblog, you can update and check twitter and some other social networks like Identi.ca, Status.net ..
I've had countless friends using Pidgin/OTR that can't authenticate with me. It seems to only be a problem on Facebook (I think). Google's XMPP works fine with authenticating with OTR. Kinda weird since it shouldn't depend on the protocol, right? What's going on?

Consider this scenario - you want to have an imp. discussion with someone on your chat list and the person is marked away. You are wondering if there is any way you could be notified when he returns. Of course, we can leave a message but it won't be any more useful than a short email if you are sleeping or away.
Pidgin is a free instant-messaging client that combines all your IM accounts in one simple application. Instead of running several different IM clients that display ads and eat up memory, just use Pidgin.
