I have pFsense machine and one nagios(NagiosXI) installed machine. On pfSense machine DHCP server is running.
i want to monitor pfSense i.e DHCP status, interface through nagios using SNMP.
I have add pfSense in Nagios and it is showing CPU usage, swap, memory etc.
I am thinking of using pfsense on my ubuntu server box. I'd virtualise pfsense with virtualbox, and have it route and firewall all traffic on and to my server and the rest of my lan.
However, I've heard that using pfsense on anything but a dedicated box poses a security risk. Why is this, and is this really an issue for a home network like mine?
I've been trying to figure out a complete working solution for IPSec VPN implementation on FreeBSD but with no luck till now.
We have a PFSENSE installation with a few physical interfaces defined:
192.168.1.0/24 - LAN
192.168.2.0/24 - WIFI
192.168.3.0/24 - SERVERS
10.61.88.0/23 - New Requirement..... read on
The new requirement has been laid out by a supplier, they require access to their equipment, which is all attached to a DrayTek Router/Firewall.
I'm looking for an alternative to pfSense (2) that can be virtualized in VMWare ESXi. I've experienced several problems with pfSense to date and I feel like it is not a totally finished or polished product. Whenever anything goes wrong (IP address conflict, squid misconfiguration, etc) the whole thing goes berserk and it takes a reboot or at least 5 - 10 minutes to fix itself.
In my network pfsense is the firewall and router for my entire network. It is the only machine with direct WAN access. All other machines are behind it (and connected through a switch).
Please bare with my long explanation but this is important to explain the actual problem. Please also pardon my knowledge with PFsense as i am new to
this.
I have single PFSense box with 3 Ethernet adapter. Before moving to configuration for these, i want to let you know i have two Ethernet based
Internet Leased Line Connectivity let's call them ISP A and ISP B.
Is it required to install virtual box in order to install pfsense?
I mean I would like to directy install pfsense over ubuntu 12.04 operating system without needing any virtualbox like software?
Does pfsense have capability of running over real operating system directly?
Thanks in advance
I had two virtual machine running under VirtualBox, both Windows Server 2008 R2.
One configured with DHCP and RRAS(NAT), another configured to be DNS.
The DHCP-NAT server has two virtual network cards, one NAT to have Internet access, another connected to internal network. I made the NAT one to have static IP, and the internal network one to get IP from DHCP.
