I have a pfsense box set up. What happens is I set a rule so I can't hit the admin interface 192.168.3.1 from the box.
I am having a problem connecting to the internet:
In Konsole:
$ ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
But
$ ping 173.194.75.94
PING 173.194.75.94 (173.194.75.94) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 173.194.75.94: icmp_req=2 ttl=45 time=107ms
etc..
^c
--- 173.194.75.94 ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% packet loss, time 4006ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev
Why is the ping command outputing different results for these two instances?
$ ping -c 3 www.google.ca
PING www-cctld.l.google.com (173.194.79.94) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from pb-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.79.94): icmp_req=1 ttl=48 time=24.7 ms
64 bytes from pb-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.79.94): icmp_req=2 ttl=48 time=24.5 ms
64 bytes from pb-in-f94.1e100.net (173.194.79.94): icmp_req=3 ttl=
ok after pouring over the internet for the last three days i give up and im asking for help
i just did a live upgrade on my suse box taking it from 11.1 to 11.2 and fallowed all the steps in the doc it all went fine except after it was finished i can no longer access the internet
Code:
dracula:~ # ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
Hi all,
I use vpnc to connect to my work Cisco VPN.
Hello,
never experienced this problem before. Nothing on Google helped me.
When I run:
# Ping 127.0.0.1
Returns nothing. As if expecting an answer that never comes. Then press Ctr + C and returns:
--- 127.0.0.1 ping statistics ---
117 Transmitted packets, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 116009ms
I've got a bit of a basic networking question here regarding ping.
When pinging a particular host on a completely different subnet, I get a response like this:
PING myhost.example.com (1.2.3.4) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 1.2.3.4: icmp_req=1 ttl=115 time=1.88 ms
64 bytes from 1.2.3.4: icmp_req=2 ttl=115 time=1.66 ms
64 bytes from 1.2.3.4: icmp_req=3 ttl=115 time=1.96 ms
64 bytes from 1.2
Well.
So, I'm staying out at a friend's house in the middle of nowhere, and she's been complaining about how slow her satellite internet has been of late. So I decided I'd take a look...
If I ping my server at home, I end up with these statistics:
Code:
// @ 1 ping probe per second
60 packets transmitted, 36 received, 40% packet loss, time 59172ms
