I have an Ubuntu Server 12.04 connected to internet via adsl router with cable eth0.
The Ubuntu Server has the static ip 192.168.10.33
The adsl router (as DNS) has the ip 192.168.10.254 which i set as gateway in /etc/network/interfaces.
I want another Ubuntu (laptop), with ip 192.168.10.1 with wlan0 to connect to internet through the Ubuntu Server and not through the adsl router (which is easy)
As we all know there are two ways one can configure adsl modem/router ----
(1) pppoe & (2) bridge mode.
I used pppoe mode for over 4 years.
Now I connect using bridge mode.
Why?
There are both advantages & disadvantages in both the configuration types.

I have one adsl modem/router which is not "top" of the line and it lack allot of options which I need. I was able to acquire one Cisco router recently which has all options that I need ( like DMZ, VPN, port forwarding, etc). I'm interested, if I connect the old modem/router to new Cisco router using bridge mode, will I be able to use all the features on the Cisco?
I have several managed switches at work that connect all computer within our office to the ADSL modem. However I would like enforce a VLAN policy to isolate traffic within the network. Through my previous studies of the CCNA certification it has come clear to me that I would require a router.
I've trawled the Internet for hours on this and have found nothing but contradicting Cisco documentation.
I have, on a single router, fa0/0 which is connected to a VDSL2 line and dials this with Dialer0. I also have, on this router, atm0/1/0 which is connected to an ADSL line and dials this with Dialer1.
When each is dialed, they get assigned the same IP address, gateway, etc.

I am using Windows XP in Desktop and F17 in my Laptop. I'm using Teracom Type I ADSL 2 + CPE/Router modem and use the Ethernet the Internet is working fine in both Deskto and Laptop. I have successfully setup a pptp vpn server on a Mikrotik routerboard.
Our office is using a multi-wan router as dhcp/router/firewall.
but now I want to put a pc with pfsense between that router and switch, so I can do more advanced firewall task like traffic monitor and content filtering.
after reading I found that pfsense can be a ip-less transparent firewall, so I just have to plug the cables to both NIC and done.
this solution looks easy and I dont have to chan
